However, in 2020, majority of the spending was in rent and housing costs, with personal care and clothing being the least. Also, the money spent on utilities and transportation had increased, whereas reduced for entertainment, personal care, clothing, and groceries.
In 1990, the major spending was done in groceries with well below 30%, and just below 20% on rent and housing costs. By 2020, rent and housing costs overtook groceries after an increase in it by 15%, and a reduction in groceries by 10%.
Entertainment, personal care, clothing were at 10%, around 5%, and above 10%, respectively in 1990, which then got reduced to below 10%, just below 5%, and just near 5% respectively in 2020. However, there was an increase in both transportation and utilities from well below 10% to above 10%, and 10%, respectively from 1990 to 2020.
