Overall, car travel for work exceeded the figures reached for other purposes by both genders.
As the graph shows, the percentage of car trips to work made by men was about 52%, compared to nearly 40% that of women. Next came shopping trips and and driving to courses. The proportion of car trips made for shopping by men accounted for 10%, which was 18% by women. Similarly, the percentages of males and females driving to courses were rather comparable, at 8% and 12% respectively.
In contrast, the proportion of car trips made for other purposes were significantly different by each gender. The rate of men’s trips for visiting town and recreation purposes stood at 8% and 11%, which were four times more than that of women’figures. While cars were used by under 5% of males for running errands, visiting friends and going to bank, about 10% of females used a car for the same purpose.
