The chart compares the percentage of daily Internet users in the UK in terms of different age groups between 2003 and 2006.
Overall, in all given years, people aged 16-24 had the highest rate of internet use, whereas adults aged 65 and above showed the least interest in the web. Moreover, internet use decreased as age increased.
For the two youngest age groups, the 16-24 group stood at about 80% in 2003, while those aged 25-44 began at just over 70%. Both groups remained relatively stable in 2004, but the proportion of people aged 16-24 rose noticeably to just under 90% in 2005, about 10 percentage points higher than the 25-44 group. By 2006, the figures stood at around 85% and 80%, respectively.
Internet usage was considerably lower among the three oldest groups. For those aged 45-54, the figure rose overall from about 55% to nearly 70% despite a drop in 2005. Internet use among people aged 55-64 rose steadily over the years, starting at just over 30% in 2003 and reaching 55% in 2006. However, the oldest age group, which was 65 and over, had the lowest internet usage, starting at about 3%, rising sharply before falling slightly to just under 20% in 2006.
