The bar chart below illustrates the proportion of males and females across different ages in New Zealand who engaged in physical activity in 2010.
Overall, it is evident that across the different age groups women are most dominant when engaging in regular physical activity compared to men. Although, there is a minority of men who engage in more physical activity than women.
The men in the age group of 14 to 23 make up 51.7% of regular exercises compared to the women who make up 46.9%. This figure in the 24 to 33 age category rose to 49.2% which was mildly higher than the 43.1% of gents. The male population continued to decline to an all time low at 38.8% in the age group of 34 to 43 which was substantially lower than the women at 53.1%.
In addition, the mid 40s to the mid 50s saw an increase in male physical activity at 42.9%, though the women continued to increase at 54.2%. Moreover, the 54 to early 60s age group saw the women regularly keeping fit at just over 50% whilst the men was less at 44.7%. Lastly, the 64 and above category was marginally similar at 47.2 of ladies and 48.1% of men.
