In general, the percentage of people living alone in five age groups increased significantly, and the proportion of people living alone aged 55-64 was recorded as the highest between 1850 and 2000. In addition, these figures in under age 36 groups started appearing recently since 1900.
A closer look of the chart reveals that in 1850, the percentage of peole living solitarily was comparatively lower than other periods. For specific, around 2% of people living alone was witnessed in 37-46 and 47-54 age groups. While the oldest age group accounted for only 3%. After 50 years, there had been a slight increase for the 47-54, as well as the 55-64 age group, which the former rose slightly to 3%, whereas the latter climbed slowly to nearly 4%. Meanwhile the figure for the oldest group skyrocketed over 16%, whereas the 47-54 age group saw a rapid rise, reaching almost 13%. There was a substanial growth in the 37-46 age group, at just over 7%.
