The bar chart compares the shares of people of six different age groups who used the internet for shopping online in Australia from 2007 to 2009.
Overall, it can be seen that the proportions of Australians who used the internet for shopping increased for every age group. Initially, the 26-35 age group accounted for the highest percentage, however, in the final year, it was represented by the 36-45 age group. In contrast, people aged 65+ made up the lowest share in both years.
In 2007, the majority of people aged 26-33 used the internet for shopping, at around 32%, followed by the 36-45 age group, whose figure was nearly 25%. As for the people aged 46-55 and 15-25, their shares were relatively equal, at about 22% and 20%, respectively. In terms of the two remaining age groups, the figure for those aged between 56 and 65 was twice as high as that of 65+, around 13% for the former and 5% for the latter.
In 2009, the figures increased in all age groups, with the highest share belonging to the age group 36-45, at just under 40%. The percentages of the 26-35 and 46-55 age groups, increased slightly to roughly 32% and 28%, respectively. A similar trend was observed for people aged between 15 and 25, whose share grew to approximately 23%. Lastly, the figures for users aged 56-65 and 65+ recorded more significant increases, finishing at nearly 18% for the former and 12% for the latter.
