Overall, the popularity of three out of the four instruments increased over time (trend). Additionally, the guitar and piano were consistently the most widely learned instruments throughout the period, whereas the percentage of students learning the drums and violin remained relatively low. In detail, the percentage of students learning the piano was the highest, starting at 11% in 2005. Over the next five years, it more than doubled to 20% and then surged to 39% in the final year. Similarly, the percentage of students learning the guitar followed an upward trend, increasing from 10% in 2005 to 19% in 2010. In the last year, it surpassed the piano as the most popular instrument, reaching a peak of 40%.
Meanwhile, the violin and drums had lower participation rates, with the former at 9% and the latter at 5%. The proportion of students learning the violin experienced a slight decline throughout the period, falling to 5% in 2015. In contrast, the figure for drums remained unchanged until 2010 before increasing to 9% by the end of the period.
