The given diagram shows the several ways in which waste is disposed in Toronto, Madrid, Kuala Lumpur and Amman. The total waste disposed is shown in percentage.
Overall, it can be seen that recycling and composting are the least preferred ways to get rid of unwanted substances in these cities.
Landfill disposal and incineration, two ways to cause pollution are the most used techniques. While only 30% of waste is dumped in Madrid, Toronto tops the list with about three-quarters of its waste being send to land. Kuala Lumpur uses the least amount of lands for dumping – 13%, while it is the most employed method in Amman with over 45% management of waste. On the other hand, incineration is supported in Madrid and Amman , where about 40% its waste is incinerated. However, Kuala Lumpur tops the list by incinerating just a litte above half of its total produce. Toronto, on the other hand, incinerates only one-tenth of its garbage.
Sustainable methods like recycling and composting are practiced very little everywhere. Although about 20% of Madrid’s and Kuala Lumpur’s collection is being recycled, Amman recycles only 10% of its unused objects.Toronto lags behind Amman. Moving further, composting is even little used in all cities. Only less than ten percentage is being composted everywhere.
It is evident that all the cities are preferring Landfills and incinerations more than recycling and composting.
