The bar chart below compares information on wind power generated in four different countries. The data are in MgW for 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear that Denmark had the highest growth in wind power, while the US, although the largest producer of this energy in 1985, had the lowest growth over the 15-year period.
In 1985, India and Denmark were the countries with the lowest power generation, at around 200 megawatts each. In 1990, however, it had doubled to around 400 in both countries. By 2000, it had risen to 1200 MgW for India, six times the 1985 level. Interestingly, Denmark became the most importantgenerator of that energy at that time, with 1600 of that unit.
By comparison, the EUA was the top producer of electricity with the wind in 1985 with 1200 megawatts, peaking at 1600 watts in 1990. Production then fell slightly to around 1500 MgW in 2000, when the US became the second largest generator of the energy. By comparison, Germany started with just 400 units in 1985 and steadily increased to around 900 megawatts in 2000.
