The bar chart compares the amount of wind energy produced by four countries—India, Denmark, Germany, and the United States—from 1985 to 2000.
Overall, although the United States produced the most wind energy at the beginning of the period, Denmark became the leading producer by the year 2000. All countries experienced considerable growth in wind energy production except for the United States, where output slightly declined after initially rising.
In 1985, the United States generated the highest wind energy at around 1200 megawatts (MW). India and Denmark had significantly lower outputs, both approximately 200 MW each, nearly double Germany’s production of about 100 MW at the time.
By 2000, Denmark’s wind energy production had sharply increased, reaching around 1600 MW, making it the top producer. Similarly, India experienced a substantial rise, reaching about 1200 MW, while Germany showed moderate growth, producing roughly 900 MW. In contrast, after peaking at 1650 MW before 1990, the United States’ wind energy production decreased slightly by about 100 MW by 2000.
