The bar chart provides data on the average value of clothes per kilometre bought into the European Union from six different countries in 1997 and 2003.
Overall, the costs of imported clothes increased in China, India and Bangladesh, while in countries like Argentina and Japan decreased. Moreover, the average value of clothes from Brazil remained stable.
To begin with, despite the decrease of clothing prices from Argentina, they took the highest place, in terms of cost, in both 1993 (approximately 27 pounds) and in 2003 (about 27 pounds). Likewise, Brazil’s export prices of clothes to European Union remained stable, it remained the second the second most expensive in terms of trade (almost 24 pounds). Japan’s clothing prices of garments were less than those of Argentina and Brazil (15 pounds). Despite a slight change, eventually lost its position to China, which rose to 13 pounds.
Furthermore, China gradually increased its average cost of garments from 10 to 17 pounds, eventually overtook Japan in price. Moreover, the rates in the other two countries nearly doubled. In 1993, India was about 6 pounds and Bangladesh was approximately 3 pounds. notably, by 2003, India rose to almost 13 pounds, whereas Bangladesh’s costs increased to 6 pounds.
