Overall, we can clearly see that a large number of people moved to the services industry, making it the highest proportion of employment in 2020. In contrast, Manufacturing and Agriculture/Fishing experienced a dramatic drop. Moreover, the Construction and Energy/Water domains remained relatively the same.
In 1850, the Manufacturing and Services sectors were the most important industries which had a similar level of workers, just over 30%. Agriculture/Fishing also contributed nearly a quarter of hiring, whereas Construction and Energy/Water occupied a significant portion of 8%.
