The bar chart illustrates changes in the percentage of people aged 65 or over in three different countries between 1980 and 2030. Overall, there is an upward trend in all countries, with Germany which experienced and is expected to attain the highest rise. It is worth noting that the UK is predicted to be overtaken by Canada.
In 1980, the population aged 65 and over in Germany was 15%, which was 5% higher than in Canada. The same pattern remained by 2000, when these figures stood at 20% and 15%, respectively. In terms of prediction, Canada will make a significant jump, reaching 22% by 2030, while Germany will cover 25%.
By contrast, the UK population of elderly people over 65 was at 14% at the beginning and then changed slightly to 15%, which was equal to Canada in 2000. In the following 30 years, the UK will show a less considerable increase to 18%, which will place the UK on the third rank among all countries.
