The bar chart compares the distance travelled by car per person per year in six European countries, namely Denmark, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain, as well as the EU average.
Overall, Denmark recorded the highest level of travel by car per person, while Spain had the lowest figure. Moreover, the distance travelled in Denmark, France and Italy was above the EU average, whereas the figures for the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain were below it.
Denmark had the highest amount of car travel, at approximately 12,500 kilometres per person per year. France ranked second, with a figure of around 12,000 kilometres. Italy followed, at roughly 11,000 kilometres per person. Although these three countries recorded relatively high levels of car travel, their figures showed a gradual decline, with Denmark exceeding France by about 500 kilometres and Italy by approximately 1,500 kilometres
The EU average stood at exactly 10,000 kilometres per person per year. The United Kingdom recorded a slightly higher figure than this average, at approximately 10,500 kilometres. In contrast, car travel in Germany was considerably lower, at around 8,700 kilometres, while Spain had the lowest figure, at approximately 8,500 kilometres per person. Thus, Spain’s figure was about 1,500 kilometres below the EU average and 4,000 kilometres lower than that of Denmark.
