The bar chart provides information about the distribution of students across six different computer science subjects at U.S. universities in 2011.
Overall, it is evident from the chart that natural sciences, psychology, and mathematics were the most popular subjects that year. In contrast, linguistics was the least favored among both male and female students. The other two categories displayed a similar trend in 2011.
To begin with, among male students, the three predominant subjects—psychology, natural sciences, and mathematics—each had around 200 enrolled students. Engineering and programming studies maintained a plateau, showing little variation in enrollment numbers.
For female students, natural sciences showed the highest enrollment, peaking at 299 students. Remarkably, the number of students in natural sciences increased significantly, starting at approximately 40 students and culminating at 200 students. Enrollment in linguistics, engineering, and programming experienced only marginal changes. Lastly, psychology was the second most popular subject among females, with about 170 students enrolled.
