The bar graph illustrates the number of male and female research students studying six computer science subjects at a US university in 2011.
Overall trend suggests that the most preffered subject amongs the research students is natural sciences followed by psychology. In all fields for research, male to female ratio seems to be favoring male research students except for linguistics.
For male students there is a tie for the top choice between 3 fields -pyschology, natural science and mathematics- each welcoming 200 pupils. The female students on the other hand favors the natural sciences followed by psychology and linguistics.
There is a clear gap between female students and their male counterparts in mathematics domain, less then 50 women pursues the field. While amongst men the least preffered subject is linguistics, the gender balance is still preserved.
Generally, this graph showcases the areas of research pupils chose to continue to work on and the sex differences within in the respective fields.
