The bar graph illustrates the average duration that was spent every week by different age groups ranging from 15 to 65 years and over.
Overall, time spent watching TV and reading increased with age, while time spent on social media and exercising declined. Social media was the most popular activity among the youngest group, but this position was overtaken by TV among older groups.
Those aged between 15 and 24 years watched TV for about 12 hours a week. This figure increased substantially to 20 hours for those between 45 and 64 years, before it peaked at around 28 hours at 65 years and above – more than double its initial figure. Hours spent reading, meanwhile, climbed slowly from approximately 2 hours to 14 hours between the age of 15 and 65 years.
Social media was popular for individuals between 15 and 24 years, starting at 22 hours, but it declined slightly to 18 hours for 25 to 44 years. It then continued falling rapidly thereafter to 4 hours at over 65 years. Exercising experienced a dip from roughly 8 hours between 15 and 24 years to 4 hours at 65 years and above – a drop of about half of its original figure.
