The line graph illustrates the rate at which Burglary, Car theft and Robbery changed in New Port city center between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, Burglary and Car theft were the most committed crimes but reduced at the end of the period. Robbery on the other hand, was the least committed offence even though it experienced a slight increase at the end of the period.
To start with, the rate of breaking into people’s property was the highest in 2003, occuring almost 3500 times. It was closely followed by stealing of vehicles with about 2900 occurrences. The least was theft from people and was recorded a little above 500 times. Burglary remained the most significant crime up till 2004, after it witnessed a drastic reduction, down to about 1200 times in 2008. It increased slightly again in 2009 but remained stable thereafter ending the period at almost 1500 incidents.
Car stealing started as the second highest offence but experienced a lot of fluctuations throughout the period. Surprisingly, it became the highest crime at the end in 2012 hitting 2800 occurrences, just slightly below its starting point. Robbery, however remained the lowest crime across the period, starting and finishing below 1000 incidents, even though it fluctuated at some points.
