This text has the aim of illustrating how the number and the gender of olympics participants has changed over four different time frames.
For what regards the gender it is possible to see that in 1924 the number of male participants was significantly higher than the women. Trend that continued until 1984 because even though there was an increase in the participants who were women there was a higher increment in the number of male athletes.
For example in 1952 the male participants were 4500 and the women were around 500. Another example is represented by the year 1984 where the men were around 5000 and the women only 1500. This trend changed in 2012 where it is possible to see that the male athletes are more or less 6000 but the women are 4800.
For what concerns the number of participants in general it is safe to say that there has been a steady growth 1924 to 2012.
