Overall, there are considerable differences between the data points; however, there are certain observable trends. For instance, 2-person households have accounted for the largest figures for both years, at 31% in 1981 and 34% in 2001.
Regarding the differences, the figures for 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-person households declined considerably by 2001. Specifically, the percentage of 3-person households fell from 20% to 17%, 4-person households decreased from 18% to 15%, 5-person households declined from 8% to 6%, and 6-person households dropped from 6% to just 2%.
On the contrary, the percentage of 1-person households saw a substantial increase, with the figure reaching 26% in 2001 from 17% in 1981.
In summary, the percentage of 1- and 2-person households grew, whereas the percentages of households with three or more people recorded substantial declines.
