The bar chart provides data on the percentage of Internet users in two age groups between 1998 and 2000.
Overall, the younger and older age groups consistently had a higher percentage of Internet users. In addition, both groups experienced a noticeable increase over the period. However, the early – adult and mid – adult cohort consistently had a lowest percentage of using Internet, both this groups experienced a slightly decrease throughout the timeframe.
Focusing on the increases first, at beginning of the period, the less than 15 age group stood at around 2%. This figure then rose steadily to about 9% by 2000. The figure for the 50 or more age group also saw an upward trend, which increase from roughly 4% in 1998 to about twofold Internet users in 1999, after the trend reached exactly 10% at the end of period.
In contrast, the figure for 16 – 30 and 31 – 50 age category accounted about 53% and around 42% respectively bucked the trend. In 1998, the percentage of Internet users for 16 – 30 age group was about 53%, which then fall to around 42% after 2 years. As for the figure for 31 – 50 age cohort , it underwent a same significant change with early – adult bracket. The percentage of Internet users declined slightly from about 42% to roughly 38% over the period.
