The bar chart illustrates the increase in the number of urban populations in the whole world, Africa, Asia, and Latin America across three different years: 1950, 2000, and the prediction for 2030. Overall, it can be clearly observed that there was a moderate rise in the percentage of urban residents in all countries across the three years, including the future prediction, while Latin America had the highest proportion of urban dwellers.
Most noticeably, in Latin America almost 40% of the population lived in cities in 1950; the figures for Latin America are likely to peak at 80% by 2030, reflecting a significant proliferation from 70% in 2000. There was a similar pattern in Africa and Asia, with a minor 10% in 1950 and almost 40% in 2000; however, it is expected to increase to 50% and almost 55% of the population living in cities in 2030 in both countries.
Turning to the whole world, in 1950 30% and in 2000 45% of residents lived in urban areas, with the expectation of 2030 reaching 60% of the total.
