The bar chart compares the proportions of Italian people who donated money to charity across five age groups in 2009 and 2019.
Overall, charitable giving tended to increase with age in both years. However, while donation rates declined among younger Italians over the decade, participation rose among older age groups, especially those aged over 50.
In 2009, the highest percentage of donors was found in the 36-50 age group, at around 40%, followed by those aged 51-65. By contrast, the youngest group (18-25) had the lowest rate, at just under 20%. In 2019, donation levels among younger people fell noticeably, with the figure for 18-25-year-olds dropping to below 10%, and the 26-35 group also seeing a moderate decline.
Conversely, Italians aged 51-65 and over 65 showed higher levels of charitable giving in 2019 than in 2009, making them the most generous age groups overall.
