The chart illustrates details on the population growth in cities by regions during three different time periods.
Overall, it is evident there is a ceiling trend in the population growth in all parts of the world. Latin America demonstrated the largest increase among all regions, followed up by Africa and Asia.
To begin with, the figures for the whole world’s population showed an upward trend over the period in question. There was a gradual rise by almost 20% over half a decade, and it is expected to continue rising until 2030. Latin America experienced a sharp jump by nearly one third of it’s proportion, making it a leader among all regions. By 2030, it is suggested it will peak at staggering 80%.
Similarly, Africa and Asia also saw a ceiling trend. The numbers for population growth in urban centres of Africa went up significantly by just over a quarter. By the end of the period, it is expected to reach 51%. As well as Africa, the Asian population lifted substantially by almost a quarter over a 50 year period. By 2030, it is supposed to upsurge steadily to 57%.
