Overall, Latin America been dominant with consistent growth throughout the period. Moreover, Africa and Asia started at low percentages and experienced significant growth by the end of the timeframe. Besides that, the whole world witnessed the same trend as other regions, starting at low proportions and ending up with a subsequent increase by the end of the period.
Beginning with upward trends, Latin America started with 41% of the city population in 1950, and saw a dramatic growth, reaching 70% in 2000, and is expected to reach 80% by 2030. Asia and Africa started to rise at 12% and 13% in 1950; after that, growing to the same percentage, 39%, in 2000. However, being anticipated to rise to 51% in Asia and 57% in Africa by 2030.
The percentage of people in cities in the whole world started to increase at 30% in 1950, after which it witnessed a dramatic rise to 48% by 2000. Moreover, the urban population of the whole world is projected to reach 60% by 2030.
