The bar chart illustrates the results of a survey on housing preferences among residents of Liverpool, London and Manchester in 2009.
Overall, apartments were by far the most preferred housing type in Liverpool, whereas semi-detached houses were the dominant choice in both London and Manchester. By contrast, terraced houses accounted for the smallest proportion in all three cities.
In terms of apartments with a downward trend, Liverpool recorded the highest proportion, at just under 60%, which was almost double the figure for London, at approximately 30% and nearly three times of Manchester, at about 20%. By contrast, the pattern for detached houses was reversed. This type of house attracted approximately 35% of respondents in Manchester and 25% in London, compared with only about 15% in Liverpool.
Terraced houses were the least popular option among the three cities. Only about 9% of Liverpool residents preferred this type of housing, compared with higher but still relatively low proportions of roughly 19% in London and around 12% in Manchester. While semi-detached homes were particularly favoured in London and Manchester, accounting for about 37% in both cities, while the figure for Liverpool was considerably lower, at around 18%.
