The report presents two different comparison over the years of 1970 until 2000. The progression and transformation of the percentage of food budget spent on restaurant meals (fast food, fine dining, etc) compared to home cooking and the rise of consumer preferance between fastfood meals and sitdown restaurant meals.
Throughout the years, the rise of fast food restaurant has significantly impacted the food industry. In 1970, the average consumer would prefer to cook their own meal at the comfort of their own home, but as time passes, more and more consumers prefer to dine at a restaurant. As shown from both the comparisions presented by the report. This transition of preference is mostly because of a change in the food industry, where more and more consumers prefer to eat at fast food restaurants for the quick service.
The development of the first fast food restaurant also made sitdown restaurant less prefered over the years. Which also leads to some sitdown restaurant to shut down and lead more consumers to different food restaurant, be it another sitdown restaurant or a fastfood restaurant
