The bar graph compares how much refuse was disposed, based on different approaches of treatment in one European nation across quadrennium, commencing 2005.
Overall, while bruning waste to treat it gained in popularity to became the most dominant method by the end of the period, the usage of other approaches declined in popularity, especially landfill which led the graph for most of timeframe.
In detail, the process of landfill stood out as the primary method in 2005, selected by the majority of people to treat 70 tonnes of waste, outstripping the figure for dumping in sea by a margin of 25 million tonnes. However, the former technique’s dominance appeared less evident in subsequent years, decreasing by 10 million tonnes every year before plummeting to 40 million tonnes in 2008. A similar downward trend was seen in the system of releasing waste into the ocean but to a lesser extent, its figure was identical to that of landfill during the last two years.
In contrast, the procedure in waste disposal by burning showed an inconsistent trajectory. Although it descended sharply from approximately 65 in 2005 to 40 million tonnes in 2007, when it was overtaken by others, it rebounded rapidly to reach slightly above its initial number, becoming the most prominent approach.
