The given bar graph compares the trends in male and female fitness membership, in four decades, from 1970 to 2000, with intervals of 7 years.
Overall, it is clear that the number of membership for women increased between 1970 and 2000. By contrast, it is interesting to note that the ratio for men declined over the same period.
Looking at the bar graph in more detail, the level of membership for men stood around 2000 in 1970, while women had a lower membership number of 1000. This trend continued in 1975 with women’s membership around 2000 and men’s membership near to 4000. By the year of 1980 both genders’ membership levels decreased. In this period of time, women’s membership dropped back closer to mid-1000s, and men’s membership declined more than 1000. Moreover, there was moderate decrease in men’s membership in 1985, whereas the number of women’s membership rose to just below of 3000.
It could be explained by the fact that the number of male and female membership was close to equal in 1990. Conversely, this equality was changed dramatically in 1995, when was the highest inequality between male and female membership levels. Finally, in 2000 women’s membership was about 2000, although the level of male membership was the lowest level in the time period shown.
