The chart illustrates the participation by Australian children aged 5 to 14 years in five leisure activities. The activities highlighted in the chart includes; skate boarding, bike riding, watching tv/ videos, playing electronic/computer games ,art and craft. The participation of of the children is measured in percentage.
Overall, it is of obvious notice that the Australian boys are more active at their leisure time than the girls. The most preferred leisure activity done by Australian children of that age group, both boys and girls inclusive is watching TV while the least preferred activity varies between the girls and the boys. For the boys the least preferred activities are skateboarding and art and craft while for the girls, skate boarding is their least preferred activity.
Interestingly, the second most preferred activity for the boys is electronic games. four in five Australian boys would prefer to do that in their leisure time as opposed to the girls where only three in five girls would prefer to do same. Bike riding is done by 70% of the boys while just about 60% of the girls would prefer to do that during their leisure. Less than half of the boys would prefer to do some craft work as opposed to girls where more than half (55percent) of them would love to do same during their leisure.
In conclusion, it is apparent and not surprising that most of the Australian children of that age group would prefer to watch TV during their leisure as the world in now in a digital age where most children can access their favourite TV channels such as cartoon stations/animation series in the comfort of their homes.
