The bar chart illustrates the average time citizens spent commuting to work in four different cities in Australia from 2002 to 2010.
Overall, there was a rise in the amount of time people in most cities spent on transportation, except for Adelaide, which saw a fluctuation. Additionally, Sydney consistently remained the highest figure throughout the period, while the opposite was true for Adelaide.
In 2002, Sydney’s residents spent an average of 35 minutes per day to travel to work, followed by a marginal increase to peak at 39 minutes per day before declining back to about 37 minutes in 2010. Similar changes, but to a larger extent, the figure for Brisbane started at about 27 minutes each day in 2002, with a subsequent significant rise to around 36 minutes per day in 2008 and a final drop to 33 minutes in 2010.
Regarding the remaining cities, Perth commuters spent an average of 26 minutes each day traveling to work between 2002 and 2008, then increased rapidly to nearly 33 minutes per day in the last year. Meanwhile, the figure for Adelaide hovered around 24 minutes per day throughout the period given, despite a growth to 27 minutes each day in 2006.
