The line chart illustrates the changes in the occurrence of three different crimes in the centre of Manchester city between the years 2003 and 2012.
Overall, in two out of three categories, namely, car theft and robbery, the frequency of crimes rose with time, whereas in burglary it decreased significantly by the end of the period.
In 2003 burglary stood at about 3400 of crimes occurrences, then it went up to around 3700 crimes in 2004. The figure then plunged rapidly to about 1100 in 2008. Later on the figure increased to 1500 and then remained stable until 2012.
However, car theft’s frequency experienced an initial decrease in the first three years going from 2300 to 2000. Then the figure fluctuated until 2009 where it reached 2400. Afterwards, the occurrences increased to about 2700 crimes with little variations.
Regarding robbery’s crime rates, they grew steadily from a little over 500 to around 900 in the first two years. The figure then slightly decreased to about 500 in 2006. Robbery’ frequency witnessed little variations for the rest of the period ending at around 600 crime occurrences.
