The graph illustrates the birth rates among females in six different age groups in the United Kingdom between 1973 and 2008.
Overall, only women aged between 30 and 39 experienced a rise in birth rates over the period, while all other age groups showed a decline.
Firstly, in 1973, giving birth was most common among women aged 25–29, and this trend remained throughout the period. Secondly, the birth rate in the 20–24 age group started at 120, which was the highest among all groups except the 25–29 age group. The 30–34 age group started at 70 and saw a steady increase until 2008.
Women under 20 started at 50 and experienced a gradual decline, while the opposite was true for the 35–39 age group. Moreover, the birth rate among women aged 40 and above decreased from 20 to 14 over the period.
