The line graph illustrates how three kinds of crime changed in the inner part of Newport city between 2003 and 2012.
It is clear that although burglary initially was the most popular type of crime, it then became less common, whereas robbery and car theft remained relatively unchanged.
Focusing on the figures for burglary, the trend for burglary initially started at just under 3,500 incidences. Following the next year, it saw a moderate increase of 3,000 cases. By 2008, however, the cases had decreased noticeably to around 1,000. Afterwards, they oscillated between 1,000 and 1,500 for the rest of the period.
As for car theft and robbery, the figures for the former leveled off at under 3,000 during the first three years. 2006 witnessed a significant drop of 1,000 in the number of car incidents. Having decreased, it then started to rise gradually, ending with 3,000 cases. Interestingly, the number of robbery cases fluctuated between 500 and 1,000 during the whole period.
