The bar graph illustrates the worldwide sales of four types of digital games between 2000 and 2006.
Overall, sales of these different games had increased during the given period except that of console games, whose sales were reduced by almost half by 2006. Although sales of online games started only in 2001, it represents the highest sales growth among all the other games during the given time period. Likewise, records show an increased sale of handheld games and mobile phone games.
Handheld Games started as the highest-selling games with sales of about12 billion dollars in 2000 followed by console games, which happened to be only other gaming option in that year. While handheld games gradually grew more popular and reached sales of a total just shy of 18 billion in 2006, the console games were purchased consistently fewer each year and ended with sales of approximately 3 billion only.
On the other hand, Online and Mobile phone games started only in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Online games started with sales of less than a billion, whereas mobile phone games started around 1 billion. The sale of online games rose steadily and reached around 9 billion, an increase of approximately 900% in five years. Similar to the online games, popularity of mobile games also increased over the years and exhibits of sales nearly 7 billion in 2006.
