The bar chart below shows the numbers of male and female research students studying six science-related majors at a UK university during 2019.
Overall, they show the difference in numbers between male and female students relating to the subjects that they took.
The male students dominated the subjects like physics, astronomy and geology with a big gap in numbers between male and female students, physics being the subjects with the highest gap between numbers of male and female student with over 200 male students and approximately 50 female students while astronomy and geology have the same amount of male students around 150 with over 50 and approximately 75 female students respectively.
Even though woman students outnumber in subjects like biology, medicine and veterinary medicine, the difference in numbers of man and woman is quite small. Both biology and medicine have around 225 female students with over 175 male students respectively where as over 100 woman students and over 50 man students study veterinary medicine.
