Overall, more women than men chose most of these subjects. The only subject with more men was Art and Design. The biggest difference between genders was in Philosophy.
In detail, Philosophy had many more women (about 150) than men (only about 50). Women also outnumbered men in Linguistics (250 vs. 180), Communication and Media Studies (220 vs. 200), and History and Archaeology (120 vs. 100).
However, Art and Design was different. Here, there were more male students (about 170) than female students (about 150). Finally, English Language and Literature had almost the same number of men and women (about 240 vs. 250), making it the most balanced subject.
In conclusion, while women were the majority in most art subjects in 2011, men were more common in Art and Design, and English had an equal mix.
