The bar chart presents information about the number of males and females in Britain in further education and whether they were in full-time or part-time education. Data is recorded in three periods.
Overall, full-time education in males fluctuated while females had a steadily increasing trend. In part-time education, on the other hand, both men and women can be seen having a gradual climb throughout the years.
Men were seen dominating the numbers from 1970 to 1971 with approximately one million students in full-time education. They dipped in numbers slightly, however in 1980-1981 when they had over 800 thousand students and remained relatively the same until 1990 to 1991. Part-time education in males is significantly lower than their full-time counterparts, with less than 200 thousand studying from 1970 to 1981 and rose to over 200 thousand from 1970 to 1971.
Women, on the other hand, were at least less than 800 thousand students studying full-time education from 1970-1971 and steadily increased to approximately 800 thousand by 1980 to 1981. A significant increase was seen from 1990 to 1991, where females were over one million students than their male counterparts. Part-time education in females is almost similar in males with less than 200 thousand from 1970 to 1971 and a sharp rise to approximately 200 thousand by 1980 to 1991.
