In 2004, the number of applicants from China topped the list with 28000, which was twice as much as that of the USA . In the next four years, while the figure for China dropped significantly, the number of US students went up gradually before overtaking the highest position, with approximately 28000 and 15000 applicants, respectively.
About Japan and Russia, their numbers of registers for studying overseas were much lower compared to the other counterparts, with respective figures being 6000 and 3000 students in 2004. After experiencing a modest growth, the number of Japanese applicants reached 10000, which was nearly three times higher than that of Russian in 2008.
