The bar chart illustrates the proportion of adults in five different age groups in the UK who used the Internet daily between 2003 and 2006.
Overall, it is clear that the percentage of adults using the Internet in all age groups experienced an upward trend. In addition, the younger generation using the Internet had the highest figure, while those aged 65 and above showed the lowest access rates.
With regard to 16-24 and 25-44 age groups, the percentage of the former using the Internet was dominant throughout the period. It stood at 80% in 2003 and 2004, then increased slightly and hit its peak at 100% one year later before experiencing a marginal drop to 90% at the end of the period. Similarly, ranking second with 50% in the initial year, the figure for the latter showed a slight increase by about 10% per year, reaching 60% in 2004, 70% in 2005 and reached a peak of 80% in the final year.
Turning to the other age groups, the percentage of the 45-54 age bracket using the Internet accounted for 60% in the first year, after that it increased slightly to 70% in 2004 and continued to increase to 75% one year later. Then the figure showed a slight rise to 80% at the end of the timeline. Meanwhile, the 55-64 cohort started at 30% in the first year, followed by a dramatic increase to 50% in 2006. Similarly, the 65 and above age bracket started with the lowest figure at about 0% in 2003, after which the figure increased sharply to 20% at the end of the timeframe.
