The line graph shows the proportion of people, who were born in the UK, Asia and other places of the world, between 1976 and 2011 in Australia. Overall, the percentage of people, who were born in Asia, increased consistently and finished at the highest proportion. The share of individuals from other parts of the world showed a similar upward trend with mild fluctuations, while the reverse was true for people born in the UK.
In 1976, the share of Australian people born in Asia was 2.5%, which sharply rised by 12.5% and had become the highest figure by 2011. By contrast, people from other places shared around 11%, then fell, hitting its trough at 7.5%. From 1986 onwards, this trend had rebounted to about 13% by the end of period.
On the other hand, the proportion of people born in the UK bucked this trend. In 1976, nearly 15% of Australian people were born in the UK, which initially was the highest figure. The end of the period, however, saw this trend decrease to 5%.
