In 1999, the USA had the highest proportion of internet users at around 20%. Canada and Germany followed with approximately 10% and 5% respectively. During the first six years, these three countries saw a steady rise. By 2005, the figures for USA and Canada reached about 40% and 35%, while Germany grew to around 25%.
From 2005 to 2009, Germany’s figures increased very fast and it caught up with the other two countries. At the end of the period, the USA, Canada, and Germany all peaked at nearly 80%. In contrast, Indonesia started with almost 0% in 1999. Although it had some growth, it only reached about 10% by 2009, which was much lower than the other nations.
