The bar chart provides data on the percentage of commuters using various types of transport in Melbourne and Sydney over a 5-year period
Overall, it’s clear from the graph that the most preferred kind of transport in both years and cities was private.
In 2006 the percentage of people from Melbourne that used private transport, for example cars, was just over four-fifth. Then in the next 5 years this amount decreased slightly by several percent and was nearly the same as the figure for Sydney in 2006. Later, the number of those from Sydney experienced a small decline by approximately 4%.
By contrast, the percentage of public transport use in Melbourne and Sydney was considerably less and accounted nearly for 11% and 19% respectively in the beginning of the period. By the year 2011 they both witnessed a tiny rise. In comparison, the figures for cycling and walking were around the same for Melbourne over the entire period. The percentage of people from Sydney, in turn, was just over than Melbourne’s in 2006. Then, this amount fell steadily in 5-year period.
