The graph below demonstrates the percentage of plastic, cans, paper and glass recycled in one city in 1992, 1997 and 2002.
Every type of waste recycling shows the rise in percentage over time. With paper and glass recycling showing huge rises and plasting recycling improving slightly. While can recycling seen a slight downfall in 1997 but rose back in 2002.
There was a huge spike in recycling of glass in span of 10 years. It’s percentage rose from about 15 percents in 1992 to almost 50 in 2002.
While recycling of plastic has been relatively stable in this period time. Especially from 1997 to 2002 it showed almost no sign of improvement and was slightly above 10 percent.
Cans are the only waste that showed a negative trend in recycling. From almost 20% in 1992 it fell down to less than 15% in 1997. But it quickly spiked back in 2002 and reached it’s all time high mark of 25% in 2002.
