Overall, the prices of most types of bread increased over the period, except for wholegrain, which fluctuated significantly. While most types started at a similar price, brown bread became the most expensive, whereas rye consistently remained the cheapest.
The price of 800 grams of wholegrain bread was 0.8 euros in 2001. It surged sharply to reach a peak of 1.8 euros in 2002, then dropped drastically to 1 euro in 2003. Afterwards, the price declined slightly and returned to around its original level by 2005.
Brown and white bread each cost 0.6 euros in 2001. The prices of both types increased significantly by 2003: brown bread rose to around 1.6 euros, while white bread increased to about 1.1 euros. After that, the price of white bread rose gradually to just under 1.4 euros, whereas brown bread fluctuated between 1.6 and 1.4 euros by 2005.
Rye bread started at 0.6 euros in 2001 and showed minimal change throughout the period. The price dipped slightly to around 0.5 euros between 2001 and 2003, then rose gradually to approximately 0.7 euros by 2005.
