The bar chart illustrates the results of a European survey concerning young people’s expectations for change across five distinct sectors over the next two decades.
Overall, most people consider that conditions in almost all sectors will worsen, with one exception: “communication between people” category where the opposite is expected. Notably, most pessimistic outlook is seen for the “quality of air in cities”, which the smallest proportion predict improvement.
To begin with, it is expected that in the future, there will be improvement in the category of “communication between people”. More than half of survey participants consider it will become better than it is now, while the reaming people (46%) predict that it will get worse. Meanwhile, 70% of people make a negative comment about quality of air in cities, considering the situation will deteriorate after 20 years, as improvement in this area is mentioned by 23% of people.
When it comes to the other areas, people’s expectations are almost similar, more than half considering it get worse. The share of people who projected that the situation will decline in the health sector accounted for 58%, being 2% lower than those who think the quality of water will worsen. The rest of people (40% and 42%, respectively) predict the situation will get better in these sectors. The difference between the share of respondents in the “Quality of food” area is 2%, with 51% responding negatively while 49% of participants believe there will be improvement in this area after 20 years.
