Overall, computer games appear to be the most popular home activity in all the countries,whereas reading is generally the least preferred, apart from Scotland. Notably, watching TV is equally popular across the four countries .
Looking first at computer games, this home activity ranked first in all nations, participation was highest in Ireland at 60%, followed by Wales and England at 50%, and lowest in Scotland at 40%. Watching television showed identical levels of engagement in every country, with precisely 30% of young people reporting this activity.
Turning to the remaining activities, board games and reading, in turn, held the third and last position in all surveyed countries, except Scotland. There is a marked difference in the percentage of board games between Wales and Scotland, with the former being 30%, double that of the latter. England and Ireland were lower than Wales by 5% and 10% respectively. Finally, reading attracted the largest share of participants in Scotland (25%), whereas the other three nations recorded much lower figures, ranging from 10% in Ireland and Wales to 20% in England.
