The pie chart compares proportions of visitors to four types of tourist attractions and five specific theme parks in Britain in 1999.
Overall, theme parks accounted for the largest share of total visitors, while the opposite was true for wildlife parks and zoos. Additionally, most people chose Blackpool Pleasure Beach as their destination for theme parks, whereas Legoland, Windsor and Chessington World of Adventures recorded the lowest visitor traffic.
Looking at four main types of attractions, the proportion of tourists visiting theme parks was 38%, which was 1 percentage point higher than the 37% recorded for museums and galleries and more than twice as high as that of historic houses and monuments (16%). Finally, wildlife parks and zoos witnessed presented the smallest proportion of tourists at only 9%, making them the least popular among the four surveyed categories.
As for the five specific theme parks, nearly half of the total number of tourists chose Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which nearly tripled the figures for Pleasureland, Southport and Alton Towers, at 16% and 17% respectively. Lastly, the percentages of people visiting the two remaining places were identical, with each welcoming 10% of the surveyed visitors.
