The pie chart depicts the percentage of visitors travelling to four types of tourist attractions in Britain, namely wildlife parks and zoos, historic houses and monuments, museums and galleries, and theme parks in 1999.
Overall, theme parks and museums and galleries were the most popular attractions in Britain. In addition, Blackpool Pleasure Beach attracted the largest percentage of visitors among theme parks.
Regarding tourist attractions, theme parks and museums and galleries accounted for the largest shares of visitors, at around 38% and 37%, respectively. Meanwhile, the proportion of people visiting historic houses and monuments was 16%, which was nearly double that of wildlife parks and zoos (9%).
Turning to theme park attractions, nearly half of all visitors chose Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The figure was significantly higher than those for the other sites. This was followed by Alton Towers and Pleasureland, Southport, at 17% and 16%, respectively. Finally, Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland, Windsor each received 10% of visitors.
