Overall, the proportion of women continuing to tertiary education increased in all five countries over the period. Canada had the highest figure throughout the period , while japan consistently had the lowest participation rate, despite a noticeable rise.
In 1970, Canada led with around 60% of female school leavers progressing higher education,. This was followed by Germany at about 50%, while the USA and the UK stood at roughly 40% and 35% respectively. Japan had the lowest figure at just 20% of women entering higher education.
By 2015, Canada remained at the top. The UK experienced the most significant rises, climbing to approximately 60%. the USA grew to around 55%, Germany also saw a steady increase to roughly 55%. Japan more than doubled at 40%, representing the sharpest proportional growth.
